Rumblings on repositories
14:49, 23 Oct 1999 UTC | Simon St.Laurent

Will there ever be a semantic Web? More grumblings between major players seem to be highlighting the differences and suggesting that there are lots of different directions companies would like to take XML.

In the Infoworld article, IBM seems to be quite disenchanted with Microsoft and its BizTalk repository site, while earlier this week Sun was unhappy about Microsoft's SOAP strategy.

While the story suggests that IBM is gathering allies to 'develop an independent approach to the development of XML schemas for electronic-business applications', it isn't clear whether that project will go through OASIS. IBM has had an important role in creating their XML.org repository.
