Thierry Kormann has announced a new alpha release of Jackaroo, an open source Java SVG viewer.

Jackaroo's features include:

• A conforming DOM level 2 API
• A full CSS engine
• A basic SVG rendering engine including
• basic shapes
• simple text
• style properties (color, stroke, opacity)
• transform
• gradient (linear and radial with the spreadMethod)
• A DOM tree with the computed style on each element

Kormann indicates that clipping and masking are the next features due for implementation, along with UI support for events.
