The W3C HTML Working Group has released two new working drafts, XML Events and Modularization of XHTML in XML Schema, along with the jointly produced XHTML+MathML+SVG Profile.

XML Events defines an XHTML module which:

"provides XML languages with the ability to uniformly integrate event listeners and associated event handlers with Document Object Model (DOM) Level 2 event interfaces. The result is to provide an interoperable way of associating behaviors with document-level markup."

Modularization of XHTML in XML Schema provides a version of XHTML 1.1 using W3C XML Schema. This is the third draft, and a diff-marked version of the draft is available for comparison.

The XHTML+MathML+SVG Profile:

"combines XHTML 1.1, MathML 2.0 and SVG 1.1 together. This profile enables mixing XHTML, MathML and SVG in the same document using XML namespaces mechanism, while allowing validation of such a mixed-namespace document."

The spec notes that it defines a "possible profile", not a normative one.
