Infinity Loop's Upcast product allows the conversion of legacy RTF documents into XML, supporting Word 95, 97, and 2000.

Written in Java, and available for Windows, Mac and UNIX, Upcast is free for private use, although a commercial product.

Conversion to XHTML + CSS is currently supported. Inline WMF drawings are automatically converted to JPEG images. Trial versions are available from Infinity Loop's site, as is the PDF documentation for the product.
