XML database server dbXML becomes a commercial venture
10:18, 15 Mar 2000 UTC | Eric van der Vlist

Tom Bradford, Chief Architect of the dbXML Group, answered a question from Laurent Bossavit, who had noticed that:

"The home page of dbXML (at http://www.dbxml.org/) recently changed to a 'teaser' announcement of a forthcoming commercial product."

Bradford declared that the open source XML data server was:

"now part of a commercial venture. We're trying to keep it (at least the core of it) BSD-licensed for our 1.0 release, and far as our parent company is concerned, they're perfectly okay with that."

Bossavit observed that this, taken in the context of Object Design's renaming to eXcelon Corp, is another sign that "XML database servers" are likely to become a significant market segment.
