XMLmind FO to RTF converter
09:05, 7 Mar 2002 UTC | Michael Smith

XMLmind have released XMLmind FO Converter, a Java application for converting XSL-FO files to RTF.

Note that it has some serious limitations, including lack of support for the following:

  • page headers, footers, and footnotes

  • keeps and breaks

  • block-level elements (e.g. list-block) in table cells

  • automatic table layout

  • expressions in property values

  • the instream-foreign-object element

  • the writing-mode property (value lr-tb is assumed)

The application is available for download from the XMLmind site.

The nested tables limitation is really serious, because impedes generating dynamic documents (with RTF format) that includes elements iteration in a recursive mode. This lack is not desirable for implementing dynamic document building systems.
