XQuery/XPath 2.0 Functions, Operators draft
17:15, 29 Aug 2001 UTC | Simon St.Laurent

The W3C has released an initial draft of XQuery 1.0 and XPath 2.0 Functions and Operators Version 1.0.

The draft, "produced through the efforts of a joint task force of the W3C XML Query Working Group and the W3C XML Schema Working Group and a second joint task force of the W3C XML Query Working Group and the W3C XSL Working Group", describes how to process type information specified by W3C XML Schema in the context of XQuery and XPath:

"[XML Schema Part 2: Datatypes] defines a number of primitive and derived datatypes, collectively known as built-in datatypes. This document defines operations on those datatypes for use in XQuery, XPath and related XML standards. This document also discusses operators and functions on nodes and node sequences as defined in the [XQuery 1.0 and XPath 2.0 Data Model] for use in XQuery, XPath and other related XML standards. "

Effectively, the draft may be seen as a first expression of how to access the Post-Schema Validation Infoset (PSVI) defined by the interactions between a document and its W3C XML Schema.

Comments on this draft should be addressed to the www-xml-query-comments@w3.org mailing list.
