Five new XML Query Drafts
13:00, 14 Jun 2001 UTC | Simon St.Laurent

Massimo Marchiori announced the release of five new XML Query drafts, including a completely new one: XQueryX, an XML syntax for XML queries.

XQueryX is the only completely new draft. XML Query Use Cases and XQuery 1.0: An XML Query Language have been revised.

The previous XML Query Algebra has become XQuery 1.0 Formal Semantics. Contining the W3C's march toward an XML Schema-aware XPath 2.0, XML Query Data Model has become XQuery 1.0 and XPath 2.0 Data Model.

Dylan Walsh found XQueryX verbose:

"When I heard about the XML Syntax, I thought that was an excellent development, as an alternative to the existing text syntax, with its pseudo elements etc. However this XML Syntax below is such that it is unlikely to be used for hand written querys."
