If you want an easy way to get started with WAP, and in
particular WML, the Wireless Markup Language, you may be
interested in the WAP/WML
support added into the Manila content management
system.
André Radke of Userland has announced
the
addition of "automatic" WAP support in Manila, an
authoring layer which runs on the Frontier content
management server from Userland.
Manila is used to power the freely hosted sites at EditThisPage.com.
According to Radke, appending "/wap" to a site's URL is
sufficient to provide the WAP/WML version. This looks like
it might be a good starting place for anyone wanting to
experiment with sites aimed at mobile devices. More
detail is available in this account of Radke's
experiences with WAP and WML.
