Kimbro Staken <kstaken@dbxmlgroup.com>
of the XML:DB
initiative has announced the release of an
XML:DB-developed "experimental" draft specification for a
standard XML
database access API similar in scope to ODBC, JDBC,
or the
Perl DBI. The group has also released another draft document outlining common
use-case
scenarios for the proposed API.
Developers interested in commenting on the draft
API
specification or in participating in further
development of
the API should subscribe to the xapi-dev

About the
XML:DB initiative
The XML:DB initiative was formed to provide "a
community for collaborative development of
specifications
for XML databases and data manipulation
technologies", including a standard access API for
XML databases. Their current efforts are guided
by the
XML:DB management committee: Jonathan Borden
(OpenHealth
Care Group), Lars Martin (SMB GmbH), and Kimbro
Staken
(dbXML Group L.L.C.).
In addition to the xapi-dev mailing list,
XML:DB
also hosts the xmldb mailing list for
discussion
of "all items of general interest to the XML
database community". Anyone interested can
subscribe to that list by e-mailing a
subscribe
message to <xmldb-request@xmldb.org>.
